up-to-date CT Scanner arriving soon

A GE Revolution EVO CT Scanner like this one is on order for PRGH.

Patients at Powell River General Hospital will soon be receiving their first big dividend from the community’s investment in the hospital’s original CT Scanner — a new, up-to-date model is expected to arrive in February, this one supplied by Vancouver Coastal Health.

Actually, there have been nearly 25,000 dividends, if we count all the CT exams taken locally since April 2010, when the current GE Lightspeed Pro CT Scanner — the one funded by lo-cal donations in 2008-10 — came into service.
The GE Revolution Evo, chosen and paid for by VCH, replaces that hardworking scanner prior to its natural end of life, to minimize downtime as replacement parts are becoming more difficult to obtain.
The new generation scanner will streamline behind the scenes work-flow after the patient has left the CT suite.
The Evo comes with new software that provides a moderate dose reduction. In addition, its higher table weight allowances and increased bore size enables CT access to a wider range of patients, and its in-creased scanning speed should help to minimize patient breath-hold and the effect of slight movement on the images.
The hospital is hopeful that the removal and replacement process, acceptance testing and training, will be complete by the end of February or early in March.
